BERLIN, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier on Friday announced increased humanitarian aid for religious minorities in Iraq.
"We have provided a further 2.9 million euros (3.88 million U.S. dollars) in humanitarian aid as an emergency measure," Steinmeier said in a statement.
Germany is coordinating with aid organizations to find out if further efforts can be made to help Iraqis threatened by Islamic militants, he added.
The minister condemned attacks on religious minorities by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), saying the group is "highly dangerous not only for Syria and Iraq, but for the peace and stability in the whole region."
He also called on political actors in Iraq to settle the "power struggle" and form a new government in order to put an end to the actions of the ISIS. (1 euro = 1.34 U.S. dollars)
